History and architecture

The line's northwestern terminus opened in April 1991 and honours the polymath Abu Rayhan al-Biruni. Architects F. Muzaffarova and A. Tabibov covered the platform with a domed vault patterned in marble in the national tradition. The crystal chandeliers of the hall and the lamps in the vestibule and stairways were designed as a single set by the artist Sh. Jalilova.

Named after the encyclopedic scholar Abu Rayhan al-Biruni.
