History and architecture

The line's northern terminus opened in 1980 as Maksim Gorkiy, and locals still use that name for the surrounding neighbourhood. Multi-figure bronze reliefs by Yakov Shapiro on the end walls recall the writer: according to the sculptor, they show scenes from 'Old Izergil' and the novel 'Mother'. The vault is made of eight domes about 5 m across, with carved ornament by folk master M. Usmanov.

'Great Silk Road'. Until 1997 it was called 'Maxim Gorky'.
